Alastair has over 40 years experience in private equity, principally in emerging markets. He is currently an independent director and external IC member at Mekong Capital (Vietnam) and was previously a senior adviser to Carlyle’s Sub-Saharan Africa Fund.He is also an independent director of Australian listed mining company, Aeris Resources Ltd.Alastair was a founding director and global co-head of Standard Chartered Bank’s private equity business and latterly vice-chairman of Standard Chartered Principal Finance. These roles included hiring and training teams across Asia, Africa and the Middle East, as well as sitting on investment committees.He has a particular interest in strengthening Investment Committee processes, raising due diligence standards and developing teams.For 20 years until 2002 he worked at 3i Group plc, latterly as director of the South-East Asia team.Alastair holds a MA in politics, philosophy and economics and an MPhil in Management Studies, both from Oxford University.
